The current Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) was introduced by the Government in September 2012 to provide a framework of guidance to childcare professionals. Ickwell Pre-school follows this guidance to ensure that every child has the best possible start in life and can benefit from a safe, secure and happy environment where they can play and develop at their own rate. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) divides children’s development into 7 areas of learning. Within these 7 areas there are 3 prime areas: – Personal and Social and Emotional Development, Communication & Language and Physical Development.
The prime areas begin to develop in response to relationships and experiences and are essential to enable a child to develop in all other areas. The additional areas of development are known as specific areas of learning and are also vital skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society. The specific areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and Expressive Arts and Design.
Parents can inform us via Tapestry about any special experiences your child may have had that they wish to share with Pre-school. This helps us form vital links between home and Pre-school. We will also suggest learning opportunities that can be done at home linked to the current theme/learning at Pre-school. We acknowledge that the child’s development is a shared partnership.
Some of the activities your child may enjoy could involve glue or paint, so we ask that you do not send your child to the Pre-school in their best clothes! Also ensure your child has suitable labelled clothing for both the warm and cold weather as we go outside in all weathers. We have T-shirts, Jumpers and sunhats available to purchase in a variety of sizes and colours all with the Pre-school logo on them. Please ask staff for current prices and availability.
If a child turns up at Pre-school with noticeable signs of accidental injury, this will be entered in the Home Incident book and you will be asked to sign this on arrival or at the end of the session. The emergency telephone numbers of all children are at hand should staff require them. Any accidents that take place on the premises are also recorded and the parent is informed and asked to countersign the accident reporting book immediately on arrival at Pre-school.
If you want your child to be picked up by another person, for security reasons we need ONE of the following; introduction to the person picking up OR a photo and password OR a description and password.
Should the Pre-school have to close due to inclement weather, parents and carers will be contacted as soon as it is practical. A closure notice will also be put up on our Facebook page, announced on Heart/Four Counties Radio and on https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/webapps/sos/
Approximately once a year you will be asked to help on the laundry rota, this consists of picking up the dirty towels, tea towels etc., used during the course of one week, washing drying and returning them to Pre-school neatly folded.
